IDEAL Classroom
Here is a link to my IDEAL classroom plan.
UPDATE!!! 9/14!!!
I have added some rituals to one of my classes. Each day students do a 5-10 minute warm up on a half sheet of paper. Students can work together or ask me questions while they are working. I usually try to speak loud enough when I'm helping students so that anyone nearby can hear me if they have the same question. At the end of the time (which I count down on a timer on my SmartBoard) one student is randomly selected and has to show his/her warm up sheet to the class (projected on the SmartBoard via iPad) and explain what they did on each problem. I find that this also helps to build a sense of community as students are working together and celebrating together with the presenter. I unfortunately didn't have time this year to do any energizers at the beginning of the year. Maybe sometime soon!!!

Drew - I like how you show the physical setup of your room. So often when the tables are set squarely in formation students have to crane their necks or turn around altogether to see the teacher. I think having some of them turned is a good way to fix that. I hope that you are able to make use of some of the community building (fun) activities that we did as a community with your students too!
ReplyDeleteDrew,
ReplyDeleteI think you classroom set-up looks great. It is interesting to hear how it has evolved for you over the last few years of your teaching.
I am envious that you have an interactive white board. I do not, -yet. Hopefully I will within the next year or two.
How do you handle classroom expectations and consequences? Do you follow a school-wide plan or do you have your own?
I plan on doing more community building with my classes too. I had forgotten about the Blind Driver game. I added it to my toolbox now. I will try that with fourth grade. Do you think 2nd graders could handle it?
Thanks!
